You've been hanging around AudioGuru too much.

You can find a much better op amp in the form of a TL082 from Radio Shack. Just ground the unused inputs.

I used the lousy old 741 opamp to blink the LED.
I used a TL072 dual low noise audio opamp as the preamp and lowpass filter. An LM386 power amp IC drives the headphones.
Hey the 741 still has uses... I use them to prop up my bookshelf!

(In all seriousness, it's a very common op-amp in education, though I'm glade we're now taught using a TL082 which is closer to an ideal op-amp, but still a long way off.)

What do you want a description of?
What are you using an old 741 opamp to do?

The Electronic Stethoscope project has a description of its circuit at www.aaroncake.net and at www.electronics-lab.com .
I used a dual low noise audio opamp a TL072 for the preamp and lowpass filter IC, an LM386 for the power amp and a 741 to flash the LEDs.
