Unhappy simple IR transmitter receiver

Your 555 sends continuous 38kHz. A TSOP IR receiver and most others reduce their gain when they receive continuous 38kHz because they assume it is interference from a compact fluorescent light bulb. The TSOP datasheet explains this and shows that the 38kHz must be modulated in "bursts" usually by data or by an another oscillator for the gain to remain very high.

Your IR LEDS are directly in parallel that is very bad unless they are matched.

Hi,
With this setup, you won't be able to do much. Research on using 555/4017 with HT12D and HT12E. There was one project on EFY that had a complete 4-channel circuit with this. Maybe you could google to see if you find it. I'll see if I can find it for uploading.
In the meantime, do your research on this. If you can use microcontroller, which I don't think you can, there are complete projects with source code available with RC5 protocol starting with simple 8-pin 12F629 and ATTiny to much larger.
