Neutral wire

I am unsure as to where exactly the neutral wire in a common socket terminates. I understand that the live wire taps off from the coils in the generator at power station but then how exactly does the neutral complete the circuit? Is it tied to ground?

You have Hot, Neutal (Return), and ground.

In the US, Neutral and Ground are connected to the ground buss in the distribution panel. Where they are connected in your part of the world is covered by your country's electrical code.
