Does any one know the theory behind how the magnetic hot stove top work?
i.e. Why does a special cocking pan gets hot by just placing it on the top of a magnet plate?
Links and explanations are most appreciated.
These are called induction hobs and contain coils which induce circular currents in a (relatively) high resistivity ferrous material in the solid base of the pan.
Because of the high resistivity the circulating current dissipates considerable heat and warms the pan.
Note that, unlike microwaves, this system warms the pan not the food.
