What component can I buy which contains several digital switches whereby I can select which switches I want on by enabling certain signals???

I think you are looking for a Multiplexer. They come in digital and analog versions. Google is your friend.

You can look for "analog switches" Both Maxim and Analog Devices make many different types.

they are discontinue now but there were mechanical switches whereby it went from 0-9 to select power output and/or funtcions
