i need help to connect and extract the analog output of a photodiode to trigger a digital circuit.can anyone help me out?

What is the light source you are going to use to trigger it?IR, Laser, Ordinary light? what type of triggering do you need? I mean when light falls on it, should it give a high(5v) or low(ov) output?? What is the output you are going to drive? Load or TTL?

Please provide such details for everyone to help you faster..
