can 801.11b device work for 801.11g router?

It should be part of the specs of the router, but in general the answer is yes. Most G devices are backward compatible with B devices.

801.11g is backwards compatible with 801.11b therefore it should work; however I would expect it to incur a performance hit because b-band support on the g-network is achieved through the CCK modulation scheme which restricts that section of the network to data rates of either 5.5 or 11 Mbs, where the g-compliant portions of the network can go much faster.

Backward compatible maybe, but what you need to know is that receiving devices (you say your base station is 'b') need to be set for this.

They usually have up to three settings

b only
b and g
g only

The settings need to be made in the hardware settings for the device.

thank your for your replies. your comments really help me understand. I did go back to study my router specification. it said:"Firmware is not backwards compatible with Rev. A or B"
Now I learned another thing today. Thank you all.
