Hi. I am a graduate student working on coral reefs. Part of my work requires me to deploy unidirectional light sensors underwater. I work in Singapore, where sediments are a big problem.

I am hoping to rig up a battery operated cyclical timer switch that i can use to turn on/off an aerator that can blow water across the light sensor at regular time intervals to remove settled sediments. I have help in making everything waterproof, but i need advise on how to rig up a cyclical timer.

I have minimal knowledge in electronics, so i am hoping that there are commercially available timer switches that i can purchase, programs and connect to a 12V led-acid battery and an aerator.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The simplest way out would be to power up the aerator at the same time as the light sensor becomes active. The time to clear the sensor might be interesting.
